Dancing Together
A Multi-Cultural Youth Dance Program (DT)
Dancing Together – A Multi-Cultural Youth Dance Program (DT) began in 2002 as an outreach to the underserved, immigrant/refugee, international, and at-risk children in communities near inner city Charlotte. Free professional dance training was offered in an environment of excellence, integrity, and nurturing that encouraged the highest level of personal growth and skill development. DT’s goal was to instill basic life values, including: respect, discipline, commitment, hard work, cooperation, and goal-oriented behavior in a safe, caring, non-competitive, supportive environment. Students were given many enrichment opportunities, including work with guest artists, attending national dance conferences, field trips to cultural events and performances, and performing in their own community. As neighborhood environs changed greatly in the mid-2010's due to uptown growth, redevelopment, and relocation of many residents (including DT students), the DT students were encouraged to continue by participating in RDM, where the vision, mission, and goals of DT continued. "The goal is lives. The venue is dance." .
